Bariatric News, Dr. Minkin Notes on May 8th, 2011 No Comments

First of all, to all of my current patients and those planning to see me in the future, I wish you the best of luck on you’re new life journey to a lighter, healthier you.  As most of you are aware, having weight loss surgery is only one part of the “journey”. Continued education, support, follow-up visits with the surgeon and continued physical activity are the other key components necessary for success and achieving the best results.  As far as our practice is concerned I have a new surgeon joining me this summer.  Dr. Matthew Ricks has trained under my supervision over the past 5 years and is proficient in General, Bariatric and laparoscopic surgical procedures, as well as upper and lower endoscopy.  The two of us will be expanding our bariatric practice in the very near future.

I currently continue to perform laparoscopic Bariatric surgery at Des Peres Hospital and oversee the program medically as the Medical Director.  I have also recently partnered with SSM to help expand their existing Bariatric program to the newer St. Clare Hospital.  My first seminar there was at the end of April and my thanks to all who attended.  Both of these programs are ASMBS Center of Excellence programs providing complete, multidisciplinary care for patients before, during and after surgery.

In addition to researching your options, doctors and the nature of the operations before seeing the surgeon you choose, I have also recommended that if possible all patients should consider attending a free, informational seminar before coming to that first office consultation with the surgeon.  I do realize however that with our busy lives it is often very difficult or impossible to come to a live seminar.  For this reason I will have my new, updated online seminar available with the next few days.  I’m hoping this will help accelerate the process of getting in to see me in the office.  New patients can call the office (314-965-8410), schedule an appointment and obtain a password to watch the online seminar which takes about 20 minutes.  You can then download and fill out your new patient paperwork and bring it to the office.  I also recommend writing down any questions you may have and bringing those as well so that I can answer them when we meet.  There is a frequently asked questions (FAQ) section on the website here as well.  As always, I see all patients myself for the initial consultation and for follow up visits as well as adjustments.  Again, I wish the best success to you all!
