Welcome to our Blog!
Welcome to St. Louis Bariatric Specialists! With over 10 years of experience in the St. Louis area and nearly 1000 bariatric surgical cases we have become a well-established landmark in the Greater St. Louis area for patients seeking expert and comprehensive surgical care for morbid obesity. We offer the most advanced techniques and cutting edge technologies for performing the laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy operations. Our patients have consistently experienced excellent weight loss results and vast improvement or eradication of many of their medical problems that have worsened along with their obesity over the years.
Our President and Medical Director, Dr. Darin Minkin, is a Board-Certified General, Laparoscopic and ASMBS Center of Excellence Bariatric Surgeon who specializes in the advanced treatment of severe obesity. He was the first surgeon in the St. Louis area to receive the prestigious Lap-Band Champion designation. In 2004 he founded the Bariatric Surgical Program at Des Peres Hospital and grew it into a successful, busy program performing over 300 surgeries per year. In 2009 the program received the Center of Excellence Designation from the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Minkin remains committed to providing comprehensive pre-operative, surgical and ongoing postoperative care for his patients.
As has always been the case in the past, our practice is continuing to grow and change. As we move into 2011, St. Louis Bariatric Specialists will grow and expand to meet the growing needs of our valued patients. Six months ago we moved into our newly renovated 3300 square foot office conveniently located right on I-270. Our office, designed and outfitted with the specific needs of the Bariatric patient in mind, is the first stop in your journey to a new life. Your first step should be a call to the office at 314-965-8410 where you can sit down for a one to one, face-to-face consultation with Dr. Minkin. Remember, as a patient considering one of these life- changing operations, the most important decision you make is the choice of your surgeon. You should choose your surgeon first, not the hospital. You’ll be in the hospital for 1 to 2 days, but you’ll follow with your surgeon for life! The surgeon will perform your operation, follow you in the office, perform your adjustments in the case of the Lap-Band, answer your questions, give you nutritional advice, handle phone calls and emergencies and take care of any future complications. Dr. Minkin personally performs any associated procedures his patients may require including upper endoscopy or colonoscopy, hiatal hernia repair, gallbladder removal or any future revisional surgery that may be required.
To all of our existing patients we say thank you for all of your referrals! Word-of-mouth referrals make up a large percentage of our patient population and in our mind is a measure of our success. We know that if patients aren’t successful and happy with their surgical and post-operative care, they will not refer their friends and family to us. Visit our blog frequently as we will be updating the content every so often. More news to come!
